One interesting analysis that you can run on your blog, if you subscribe to MyBlogLog’s premium analysis service for a $25 annual fee, is to see where your readers come from.
I ran the report on my old blog at Typepad for the 3 months from Sep. to Nov. 2006, and found that MyBlogLog was responsible for 6 percent of my unique traffic (or 147 out of 2473 visitors).
MyBlogLog is absolutely growing like mad. Eric posts the statistics on MyBlogLog at their blog:
First the major milestones:
- We hit 40K registered sites today
- We served a million Reader Rolls on Monday
- We’ve had consecutive 50M work weeks for pages tracked (that’s 2.5B pages tracked per year if we don’t grow another bit [and don’t track anything on weekends])
It was a great opportunity to compare against Scott’s stats post from two weeks ago and see the trends. I love the continued adoption of the Reader Roll widget:
- Oct 30: 1,325 Sites with Reader Rolls
- Nov 28: 2,398 Sites with Reader Rolls
- Dec 13: 3,658 Sites with Reader Rolls
Can you say “doubling every month”?
I’m curious to know what percent of traffic MyBlogLog comprises for other people’s blogs.
The percentage is likely affected by several variables:
- Popular blogs with high page rank and substantial numbers of inbound links probably get a smaller percentage of their traffic from MyBlogLog
- Having a large number of contacts on MyBlogLog likely generates more traffic as people browsing your contacts’ profiles may come upon your picture and profile and click through to your blog
- Spending lots of time reading other blogs that have reader roll widgets “seeds” the Internet with your face on those widgets, that ultimately generates clicks to your profile and onto your blog.
- Though we probably don’t like to admit our society’s worship of attractiveness, good looking people, or at least bloggers who have attractive photos, probably get more clickthroughs.
So the key takeaways if you want to increase your blog traffic through MyBlogLog are — add more friends and contacts to your MyBlogLog community, spend more time reading your friends’ blogs, and just in time for the recurring New Years Resolution - Go To The Gym!!!

I’ve only been on the site for a day and I’m already addicted to it. It’s exactly what I was looking for without knowing!
